Lid Project
This is my final project; my lidded project. I am very happy with the way that my last project turned out. This project seems like it would be pretty complicated because of the lid, but it was actually not too bad! A new skill I learned was how to create a lid, but it is pretty much the same thing as creating the planter from my last project. The main art elements I used are color and shape/form. It was a little difficult to try and get the shape of the lid to match the base, but once I figured out that part, it went pretty well from then. This project expresses a feeling of happiness, not just because of how it turned out, but because of all the progress I have made from the beginning of the semester to now.
planter
This is my newest ceramic project of a flower planter. This was a very interesting project! It may look very different from the other projects i have made, but really it was not as challenging as i thought. I learned how to pull up from the sides of the planter to create the outer ring, as well as just pulling up regularly for the main pot part. The main art elements i used are shape/form, color and sizing. I had to make sure i sized the pot at a good size so that i did not have a bigger bottom compared to the top and vice versa. This pot expresses a mutual feeling, since it is not a depressing color but it is not exactly something that makes me happy. But, what does make me happy, is how great is actually turned out!
Choice Project- Flower Bowl
This is my choice project of a flower bowl. I really am pleased with how this bowl turned out! I was not too sure how great the flower was going to turn out in the end, but I think it looks great. A new skill I learned was how to know how much glaze to add to a project. There are many times where I add too much or too little, but I realized how much is adequate when glazing this bowl, with the help of Ms. H. The main art elements are color, shape (the flower) and proportion/sizing. This bowl expresses a feeling of happiness and calmness to me, since it is supposed to represent a single flower in a field or garden.
Vase
This is my very creative vase. A new skill that I learned was how to choke the vase, which is what makes it have that ridge around the top of the vase. I also learned how to create the vase to go outwards In the middle, by running my finger across the top of the ridge. It is very important to be careful though, or else the whole project might cave in and fall. The main art and design elements are shape, and color. This vase expresses a mutual feeling, but with a kind of old-time feeling because of the colors I used.
Footed Cup
This is my footed cup, used with a green color on the outside and a white color on the inside. I am very pleased with how this project turned out! A new skill i learned was how to foot a handle, which is not as hard as it seemed to be! The main art elements are proportion (Handle to the cup), and color as the main ones. I really enjoyed this project, and i can not wait to try out this cup! This project expresses a feeling of calmness and somewhat reminds me of a beautiful sea green ocean.
Bowl 2- Stripes!
This is my second attempt at making a bowl. I used a greenish color for the base, with black stripes going across. The glazes did not turn out exactly how I thought it would, but I am still pretty satisfied with the outcome. A new skill I learned while making this bowl was how to properly pull up a wall, which I was learning to do still in my other bowl as well. Some art elements I used are color, lines and pattern. This bowl expresses a neutral mood, since I do not really get any type of vibe from it.
Bowl one- Heart Bowl
This is my beautiful first-attempt at a bowl on the wheel. I am very pleased with the outcome of my bowl, and I am glad that the glazes did not mix together- the purple is so gorgeous! A new skill I learned was how to pull up the wall with this bowl, since I was having some issues with this before. A few art elements are color, shape from the hearts on the bowl, and sizing. I wanted to make sure that my bowl was not too big or too small, but a typical size bowl you could use as a bowl for eating out of. This bowl represents a feeling of love an warmth, not just because of the hearts, but because of the beautiful color is radiates.
Extra Credit Project
This is my extra credit project that I decided to do, which is inspired from my previous coil pot. I did not learn anything new from this project, since I have already done this but I did experiment with the colors a bit and was very happy with how I created the texture in the cracks of the pot. The main art elements are color, pattern, shape, texture and proportion with the size of the coils being used. I am actually very pleased with how this turned out, and that the colors blend very well together. This expresses a feeling of darkness, but at the same time, it is kind of majestic like walking through a dark forest.
Frankenpot
This is my beautiful "mini" Franken pot, which I worked with Anna and Johanna. Each of us made a cylinder in this 3 part pot, and Anna glazed it very gorgeously. A new skill that I learned was how to size the pots to match your teammates, so that it wont be lopsided. It was also one of the first successful attempts at a cylinder, with the help of teammates, which was really cool. The main art elements are color, form and texture. They are used to create a sense of movement in the pot. I am very happy with how this pot turned out, since it seemed very intimidating in the beginning. This shows a sense of wonder and majestic.
Choice Project- Owl
This is my very mysterious creation of an owl. I created this by first starting with two Pinch pots, then molding the two together to create one. The skills shown in this project is how to mold the figure to create the image you are trying to create. The art elements that I used are color, lines, and texture. I used texture within the cracks of the owl to show different shades of color hiding within the owl. This pot creates an imagery of mystery and darkness, which I think looks really awesome!
First Wheel Project
This is my finishing project of my first wheel cylinder project. The new skills i learned was how to work the wheel and how to center the clay and create a bowl out of it. For me, it was a harder project since i am new to the cylinder. The main art elements is color, which creates movement within the bowl. If i could change anything about this project, i would add more color to the bowl to make it more brighter. This bowl creates an image of brightness and delight.
Finished Candle!
This is my creative finished project of my candle. A new skill that i have learned is that you need to make sure that you first cut each of the slabs, then have them sit overnight in your locker so that some of the moisture is released. It you try and connect it without having the pieces of clay sit in your locker, then it will eventually break and flop over. The main art elements I used are lines, forms and texture to create emphasis and pattern. This candle represents a feeling of creativeness and wonder.
Mug
This is my Aztec mug. I used an aztec pattern to give it an old-time ancient feel to it. A new skill that i learned was how to properly slip and score the handle so that it does not crack or come off. The main art elements in the mug are color, form and texture. These come together to make a rhythm, pattern and unity altogether. This mug emphasizes a feeling of happiness and wonder.
Coil Pot
This is my artistic, creative coil pot. I used many different types of coils to add variety to my pot, such as using circles and different moving coils. One main new skill I learned from this project is to make sure when you are rolling out the coils that you do not coil them too skinny. I also learned a very valuable lesson, make sure you add slip and score the projects so that they stick together and do not fall apart. The main art elements used are color, and lines, which works well together to create movement and texture. This expresses a feeling of delight because for me, it made me very happy to see it and I love the way that the whole project turned out.
Cat Pinch Pot
This is my beautiful Cat pitch pot. I used many different kinds of details to try and create a realistic cat composed of many different textures. I learned many new skills when starting this project, since it is my first ceramic project I have created. I learned how to take two handfuls of clay and turn them into two separate pitch pots and then eventually put them together and carve out the image of a cat. The main art elements I used were color and lines, which creates a beautiful texture across the whole cat. This project expresses a sense of calmness and happiness, because cats are very calming and quiet creatures.
